Semester 1 Final

This Semester in e-communication I created multiple different types of videos. Such as a commercial, a music video, a short film and a through my eyes.

   COMMERCIAL
For this years commercial, we did a Polaroid commercial. It went over the span of memories, while a girl was heading off to college. We wanted to originally do a video where it was a girlfriend and a boyfriend having to separate for college but we decided to go with a sister and her younger brother because it fit better and was easier to get actors for it. Truthfully, I wasn't very proud of this project. Mostly because we had a lot of issues going into it. Such as group members not following through, cameras that kept refusing to work, and color grading because of the cameras.

MUSIC VIDEO

For the music video in this class we did K by CAS. The story followed a girl and a boyfriend who he kept filming her, and then things kept happening to make them breakup. We see them breakup and split apart. We filmed all of this in one night in Kansas City MO. I was very proud of this project. The editing and the cinematography was very pretty and aesthetic and fit the mood of the song. The only problem that we had was we wanted to do a shot where the girl was standing by a car and then disappeared, it unfortunately didn't work out like we wanted it to.
We wanted to make the video have a VHS cam corder type of feel to is instead of a regular type video. https://youtu.be/-li1EgtztZY
In the end we took out the car scene because we didn't care for the way it looked since it didn't work out well.

SHORT FILM AND THROUGH MY EYES

For the last project of the semester, we were assigned a short film. Our original idea was an older woman giving a eulogy at a funeral for her young lover, and shown through flashbacks and a voiceover. We originally tried to film it like this but we couldn't get it to work due to actors and scheduling conflicts. In the end, we just had to change the concept completely and do a through my eyes. https://youtu.be/EsP7NsJv-Vg, it was a day in the life of my best friends and I, and I was quite happy with the outcome and so were my friends, we thought it was funny and sweet.
I ended up having some extra time last week so I tried to edit a version with the voiceover that we had originally filmed for our short film. I changed the concept up and added shots of me from the music video just for fun so I could be involved too, I edited, directed, filmed, and wrote the piece. https://youtu.be/DVxpNdUh88o
The videos didn't turn out how I wanted them to only because I had to do them at home on a software that I just downloaded that night and had never used before.

This year in class Ive actually started to pay attention to class and be involved, although I have been seriously considering dropping this class. Unfortunately im just not as interested in this class as I was 2 years ago. When I was younger, and even a freshman and sophomore in this class, I wanted film to be my career. But this class has just ruined it for me and I no longer want to go into that field or study it, or even come to this class everyday. I don't see it as a class, I see it as a waste of time and I hate that.
In this class, my strengths are cinematography when its not planned out, filming fun or random things. I maximize them by filming my friends being idiots outside of school.
Something I need to improve is my editing software knowledge and skills but unfortunately we never have time to do that, we focus on other things such as going over colleges for weeks at a time and most of us have already applied or been looking at it, especially in advisory, or looking at oscar nominations and box office charts, when no one truly cares or listens.
As for the guest speakers, I truly didn't listen to them either. I believe we have more important things to be going over when we are in pre production for a feature film. I also just plain didn't want to listen. I didn't learn anything from them, even when I listened. I wasn't here for gordon lambs presentation this year but I was last year, and Brandon only talked about his job so I didnt care. Drew talked about character development to the class and I dont write so it didn't apply to me purposefully. My production role is Publicist, which is the one I wanted. Im excited about this years film if we execute it correctly. I already have ideas for the poster and Im excited to allow my photography side come into this class.
