Semester 1 Final
This semester in Entertainment, we really didn't do much. Yes, technically if you look at it from a larger standpoint we did, but compared to last year we didn't. I haven't even opened premier pro or checked out a camera since September. Last year in Video we had a new project once a month. All the blogs and not always having a project to do has made me lose my drive and passion for this strand. Although I love Entertainment and will still go into it after I graduate, it breaks my heart a little bit. Im beyond excited to make this feature film though, that is what Im looking forward to the most. I can't wait to explore the new equipment and meet our cast, I really can't wait. I just hope we don't waste our time, we need as much as possible and wasting time seems to happen a lot in this class. We should have more than 3 projects a semester in a video class when we haven't started our feature yet.
I truly believe that as an E-communications student I haven't progressed my skills at all this year only because Ive barely had the chance to do anything. We made a PSA and a short film this year. Our PSA was over child predators and had the backstory behind it that you need to be careful about who you meet online because you never know who it may be. We used our actor, Andrew, and crew member Ashlee's mom, and made a story that you'll see in this link below about how young Andrew meets up with whom he thinks is a girl his age, but turns out to be an older woman who preys on young men. We went with the story of a young male and older female because its so often talked about. The normal is older men and young girls, and we wanted something the audience wouldn't expect.
Our struggles with this video was lighting for sure, we needed an entire day to film and so we had to start early in the morning and unfortunately it was sunny out that day so the lighting was inconsistent. I liked this video I thought that it fit well and Brett Taylor edited it very nicely and presentable.

Our Second project of the Semester was a Short Film, which my group had to change 3 times. We originally started out with my script and then decided we couldn't execute it as well as we wanted, so we switched to Ann's script. After an actor yelled at us and screamed, we had to change the script because it was so last minute we couldn't find someone to play him. Our 3rd script was made around actors so that we knew we would have them. It was about a young girl and her sister and their parents fighting and not spending time with the children. Our struggles for this short-film was lack of time, lack of script, lack of story and lack of crew. Filming this we only had 2 crew members while one was away and 2 others at the house were watching a dog so it wouldn't get in our shots.
We titled it Separation due to the families difficulties.

Overall, I think these two projects were disappointing for juniors in a film class. I believe they should have turned out better.
In class we used our time wisely while actually having projects to do, we got everything done and turned in on time. I believe we could have done a lot more projects in this semester instead of menu items. If my boss gave me 8 hours of work and I finished it in 7, I would go back and re edit or make changes to perfect it. To enhance my work out of class, I don't do anything because I don't have any projects in this class. I don't get client work anymore, I work too much so I cant make something, and I haven't had any inspiration like I used to, to make something and execute it.
My areas of strength are that I am a hard worker and will do what is asked of me when asked, even if I don't want to do it. I like to edit and write and actually film, I like to do it all. I like to record things and make tiny edits out of them, sometimes I will even re-edit some of my favorite movie trailers.
Our 2 guest speakers were very influential. I liked your son, he was fun to listen to and had a really good attitude about everything and had a nice modern twist to it. Gordon Lamb was fun to listen to once he brought in the equipment, that was a fun day for all of us here. Ill be able to use the knowledge of the equipment on our feature film now.
Our field trip to see Justice League was so fun, 10/10. I would love to do it again. I don't think it really will benefit my video work just because I watch movies all the time, but I think it was a really cool experience and just a nice way to get out of the classroom. I believe this new technology for the theaters will really bring people in just because its a cool experience and its basically a 2 hour rollercoaster while watching a movie which is always fun.
